Samsung’s upcoming foldable smartphone will be a portable tablet that can be folded into a phone: CEO DJ Koh

Samsung CEO, DJ Koh talked about the foldable smartphone earlier in 2018 and announced that users can get their hands on the device somewhere in November this year. Since then, Samsung’s first foldable smartphone has been a part of the rumor mill for quite some time now.

Amidst the leaks and the guess works that is going on over the internet, Koh has revealed some of the information regarding the upcoming device. According to the CEO of the South Korean giant’s mobile division, the Samsung foldable device will work as a tablet. He also revealed that the technology used in the upcoming smartphone would let users fold the device and keep it in their pockets. The foldable smartphone will not only add portability to the device, but it will favor multitasking capabilities as well.

Recently at an event in Kuala Lumpur, which was organized for the launch of Samsung Galaxy A9, Mr. Koh discussed about the foldable technology and revealed that the company would only use such a technology in its smartphones if it “will be significant to the customer”. Koh was quoted as saying, “If the user experience is not up to my standard, I don’t want to deliver those kinds of products.”

Koh also asserted that “foldable smartphone will not be a gimmick product that will disappear after six to nine months.”  Koh assured the people at the event that the foldable smartphone will be launched throughout the world and won’t be limited to its home country.

Though a lot of discussions took place about the latest technology, Koh did not reveal any of the specifications of the upcoming foldable smartphone. Koh mentioned that nowadays a large screen size is a must to have in smartphones. This was no less than a hint that the upcoming foldable phone will have a screen size not less than 6.5-inches.

Hopeful about the prospects of the handset, Koh said, “Possibly when we start selling the foldable phone, it may be a niche market, but definitely, it will expand.” He added, “I’m positive that we do need a foldable phone.”
