Samsung unveils all-new UHD OLED 15.6-inch laptop displays: Reports

Samsung has finally launched the world’s first 15.6-inch 4K Ultra HD OLED display for notebooks. Considering the reports, the display launched by Samsung is virtually bezel-less. Such displays are the latest trend in both notebooks and smartphones since the past few years. The 15.6-inch 4K Ultra HD OLED display will come equipped with high-end notebooks in Q1, say reports.

As obvious, OLED displays are way expensive to manufacture as compared to LCD displays, and this is the only reason why not so many companies are working to bring these displays to their notebooks besides Samsung. The Korean tech giant has previously also launched a number of tablets with OLED panels one of them being Galaxy Tab S4 and Windows-based 2-in-1s like the Galaxy Book 2. But the OLED displays are not yet common even on high-end notebooks.

Samsung announcing the world’s first 15.6-inch 4K Ultra HD OLED display panel might bring a revolution to the notebook manufacturing industry. Samsung, in one of the statements, has shared that the display is virtually bezel-free and has many applications including for gaming, graphic design and watching movies. All the credit goes to inherent qualities of OLED technology including high contrast ratios, color accuracy, HDR.

Talking about the detailed features of the Ultra HD OLED display panel, the brightness of the panel can go as low as 0.0005 nit up to 600 nit with a contrast ratio of 1.2 million to 1. As a result, the display makes blacks 200 times darker than what is expected from LCD panel and same is the case with the whites as they too are 200 percent brighter.

The all-new Ultra HD OLED panels are capable of displaying up to 34 million colors which are twice as high as LCD.

There have been reports that we can see the all-new display panels in the Samsung notebooks before the end of Q1 and the manufacturing of the 15.6-inch 4K Ultra HD OLED display will commence from next month.
