In an unfortunate turn of events, the website of One Piece from Toei Animation Studios recently got hacked which has put a halt to its production. As a result of this, the anime is now going on an indefinite hiatus until things get sorted.
One Piece has been running since 1999 and produced by Toei Animation Studios. During its more than 20 year run, such a situation has never occurred, however, for the first time, the anime is going on an indefinite hiatus. Let’s learn everything about how One Piece got hacked and its impact on the production of the show.
One Piece Hacked – How Did that Happen?
On Friday, the studio announced that their website got hacked by a third party and it damaged some of its internal systems of it. Because of this, it has impacted the future release of the episodes of the studio which includes not only One Piece but also the likes of Digimon and Dragon Quest.
This is certainly pretty bad news considering that One Piece Anime is only a few episodes away from catching up to the peak of the Wano arc. Fans have been looking forward to that moment for a year but this unfortunate news has certainly made them sad.
The episode released on March 13th didn’t get affected because of this predicament, however, moving forward in the future, there won’t be the release of any new episode until things get sorted. As a result, there won’t be One Piece every week on Sunday for the time being.
How Did Hack Happen?
Toei hasn’t revealed any information related to the third party which was responsible for the hacking attempt. However, from what we could deduce, it is possible that hacked must have deleted some animation footage which has halted the release of the show.
A thing to know is that many upcoming episodes are made months earlier before release for the anime to keep up with the production run. So if the footage itself gets deleted, it hampers the release schedule.
Toei has apologized to the fans for this incident and they’re working to restore everything so that fans can enjoy One Piece again. However, for the time being, fans will have to wait until things get normal.
About One Piece
One Piece is Toei’s biggest success after Dragon Ball. The studio has been running the show for more than 20 years which tells a lot about its commitment. While it has received criticism many times due to the terrible pacing and animation, it has diligently released episodes weekly.
The story of young pirate Monkey D. Luffy is watched by millions across the globe and Toei has been delivering it to every corner of the world consistently. Just as when things were reaching their peak at Wano, such an unfortunate tragedy occurred.
Hopefully, Toei recovers its data and resume the broadcasting of One Piece soon. Till then, we got to stick with some old episodes which you can watch on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
