“My brother was not at fault”: Toronto family speaks out after man allegedly murdered parents before committing suicide

A Toronto family mourning after their parents had been supposedly murdered by their own brother until he committed suicide claims they don’t blame their brother to get what occurred since he suffered from mental disease.

“Me and another 3 brothers, we all adore him, we like our parents, and now we all miss them ,” Marcia Barcelos told CTV News Toronto.

About Sept. 13, soon after two:30 p.m., Toronto Police responded to reports of a stabbing in a house on King George Road, in the field of Church Street and Weston Road.

Officers found a person suffering from multiple stab wounds around the road before the house, authorities said. A girl was also located at the house with numerous stab wounds.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. They’ve been recognized as 64-year old Joao Barcelos along with his spouse 58-year-old Iva Barcelos.

While exploring, authorities said they obtained advice that a person was struck by an UP Express train a brief distance away in the house.

The victim was declared dead upon the scene also was identified among those Barcelos’ five kids, 28-year old Tiberio Barcelos.

Tiberio is also thought to be accountable for the murder of his parents, authorities said.

Researchers stated Tiberio didn’t reside with his parents in the time of this episode.

Tiberio’s sister Marcia stated her brother isn’t at fault because of her parents’ deaths because he’s been afflicted by mental health problems for the previous four decades.

“This was not my brother. He’d mental health problems. He adored my parents. He loved them dearly,” Marcia said.

Nelson Barcelos stated he is attempting to manage the loss of his brother and parents and does not blame his own brother to the tragic episode.

“My father never wished to turn his back on him. My father never needed us to single out him and feel as though he was not part of the household,” Nelson stated.

Iva and Joao fulfilled within their native homeland of Portugal, got married, and had two sons prior to immigrating to Canada at 1987.

The couple moved to their house King George Rd. at 1993, in which Joao finished many home improvement jobs when he was not at work for a roofer. Nelson worked together with his dad 10 years.

“He was just like a buddy. Regular, you know, if I had issues, I would speak to him. Whenever I got to problems that he had been always there to assist me,” Nelson stated.

Iva took pride in raising her kids and maintaining her house sparkling clean.

“She’s an angel. She had been amazing. She had hatred in her heartwhen a person wronged her,” Marcia said.

The sisters recall their brother Tiberio within a outgoing, gentle man who loved nature and kids.

“Everything that the entire world had to give, he had been in love ,” Tiberio’s sister-in-law Juliana Ponceano stated. “He was connected to all about him. It was astounding for me personally.”

The family said that their parents attempted to get Tiberio aid but could not induce him to look for therapy as he had been 18-years-old.

“Had we had different tools, different procedures, different — anything you know, different choices, I do not believe we’d have experienced this result,” Ponceano stated.

Since the household continues to mourn their loss, they are expecting more funds will shortly be accessible for different families dealing with mental health problems.
