An Adelaide man induced’devastating injuries’ into a victim through an awful CBD struggle – but a judge says that it was the victim that had been’obviously a threat’.
Jordan Timothy Grantham, 24, was supplied a six-month non-parole phase, to be served at home detention, from the District Court on Tuesday.
He also pleaded guilty to aggravated recklessly causing severe injury within an episode that happened in the wee hours of September 23, 2018.
In sentencing, Judge Joana Fuller explained, at the night of the struggle, the sufferer — Jonathan Allen Ridge — was both abusive, unpredictable and capable of causing severe harm.
Judge Fuller stated Ridge had knocked out a pal of Grantham’s unconscious outside a nightclub and double assaulted another man from the lead-up.
“At the point he’d have appeared dull,” she explained.
CCTV footage demonstrates that the guys had moved only off Hindley St when Ridge led a karate-style kick Grantham but missed and landed on the floor.

He got back up, was kicked or pushed and got up for another time with his palms out.
Grantham swung a kick as Ridge was climbing to his toes.
“You did so to shield yourself however, by your request, you accept that was surplus,” Judge Fuller explained.
But, she explained Grantham’s activities”only ” dropped over the point of that which had been proportionate self-defence.
“Ridge has been a very clear and present threat to anybody unlucky enough to become a goal of his medication and alcohol-fuelled urge to resist and attack,” she explained.
“It’s apparent that he picked his victims randomly and delivered blows with all the ability and accuracy of a veteran fighter.
“He understood how to battle and that he understood how to dropped someone with one blow.”
Ridge has been abandoned with life threatening accidents following the incident, also spent fourteen days at the ICU.
He originally had trouble walking and has endured ongoing outcomes.
One other person charged over the episode hasn’t guilty and is expected to stand trial .
