PIANCAVALLO, Italy – Tao Geoghegan Hart sprinted to success in the conclusion of this mountainous 15th stage of the Giro d’Italia on Sunday, also João Almeida held on the overall leader’s pink jersey.
Geoghegan Harta British riders using an Ineos Grenadiers group, was a member of a trio of cyclists to get to the summit ending jointly and he sprinted to advantage Team Sunweb set Wilco Kelderman and Jai Hindley.
The 25-year old Geoghegan Hart pointed into the sky and cried”Nico” since he grabbed the line, in tribute to Nico Portal, the Ineos sports manager who expired in March.
Almeida fell on the ground with fatigue at the conclusion of this mountainous 185-kilometre (115-mile) leg in Codroipo into Piancavallo.
The Exotic riders had left a enormous solo chase to the first-category scale into the end, desperate to hold on the pink jersey.
The 22-year old Almeida, who rides to the Deceuninck-Quick Measure group, was able to finish fourth and stay in the guide but saw his benefit cut 15 minutes before Kelderman.
Hindley transferred into third party, two:56 supporting Almeida.
The Giro includes its own next rest day on Monday until Tuesday’s 16F period, a scenic 229-kilometre (142-mile) path from Udine into San Daniele del Friuli.
The race has been rescheduled from the customary May slot due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Giro finishes on Oct. 25 having a single time trial in Milan.
