Details we know so far about the new Mortal Kombat film!

 

Mortal Kombat is an upcoming American martial art fantasy action film. The film is directed by Simon McQuoid, screenplay by Greg Russo and David Callaham, and written by Oren Uziel and Russo. It is based on the video game franchise of the same name created by John Tobias and Ed Boon, and it is a reboot of the Mortal Kombat film series. The film’s cast includes Jessica McNamee, Tadanobu Asano, Ludi Lin, Joe Taslim, Lewis Tan, Josh Lawson, Mehcad Brooks, Chin Han, Hiroyuki Sanada.

Release date and brief details Mortal Kombat –

Warner Bro in 2009, acquired the franchise from Midway Games and in late 2010, began developing a new Mortal Kombat film. Kevin Tancharoen as director and script written by Uziel for the film. In August 2015, James Wan was announced as a producer and McQuoid was hired as director in November 2016. Production took place at Adelaide Studios, Adelaide and other locations in South Australia.

It is scheduled to release on April 16, 2021, by Warner Bros both theatrically and on HBO Max for its 30-day window. It was planned to release on March 5, but dates were pushed back. It will be third theatrical release for the series, but the fifth film overall. This film will have a hard R rating and feature graphic fatalities. This would be gross and horrible, just like the video game. 

It will have a brand new character as its protagonist who is not featured in any games. In the video game series, the multiple characters through multiple titles will play a significant role in the story. 

The story of Mortal Kombat –

A washed-up mixed martial arts fighter will be shown whose name is Cole Young is unaware why he is being hunted down by Sub -Zero of the Lin-Kuei clan of assassins and his hidden lineage. He seeks out a clique of fighters as concerned for the safety of his family. The fighters were chosen to defend Earthrealm in a high-stakes battle against the forces of Outworld.

The audience wants to know what will happen to dragon Liu Kang and hydra Shao Khan. But this film is a reboot so not connected to any of the other Mortal Kombat films.
