After retirement commissioner Jim Gordon tries to move on from his life of villain catching. But some new incidents comes in the way of his solace and peace. Gotham’s most notorious villain has always caused trouble to the celebrated officer. The Clown Prince of Crime has repeatedly disrupted his personal and work life. Joker’s latest rampage cost him familial loss. This pushes him towards a job outside law and order. He is ready to avenge everyone he lost because of Joker’s misdemeanour. 

The crossover event “Joker War” Caused retired commissioner Gordon to loose his son.James Gordon jr. Died as his insanity to kill anyone resembling his sister before any real harm comes to Barbara coincided with Joker’s rampage. Even though Joker didn’t kill him directly, the mayhem he caused and Batgirl’s actions to fight that indirectly caused the death of his child. A mysterious benefactor approaches grieving Jordan and asks him to hunt down the Joker at his current whereabouts in Belize and kill him.

James is not the only family member who faced Joker’s wrath. Gordon recalls when Barbara was temporarily paralysed and they both were tortured during “The Killing Joke”. Not just that, Joker killed Gordon’s wife and fellow police officer Sarah Essen, when she was trying to rescue a group of infants born, amidst of Gotham’s devastating earthquake in “No Man’s Land”.

As a public servant, Gordon always abides by the rules. His wife’s death or even Barbara’s torture couldn’t make him forget his rightful duty. He always played by the rules. When Batman freed him during “The Killing Joke” he insisted the Caped Crusader to bring Joker in and not to take the law in his hands.

After getting the knowledge about Sarah’s death his rage caused Joker to take a bullet on his knee. It gave him a limp temporarily but still Gordon didn’t kill him. When Batman tried to kill Joker during “Hush” for killing his childhood best friend Tommy Elliott, Gordon stopped him on gunpoint. 

But even after retirement he is unable to lead a peaceful life. The continued frenzy of Joker causes him another tragedy. A broken, wounded and enraged Gordon finally decided not to play by the book anymore. It’s time to give Joker what he truly deserves. And when he was approached by such a job he grabs it without thinking twice and decides to put an end to Joker’s heinous crimes. And there is no one better than him for this job.
