Google might power its Pixel 5a 5G with a Snapdragon 765G SoC

A report dated last month claimed that Google would be announcing Pixel 5a 5G on 11th June of this year. Now, we have fresh follow up rumours surrounding the previous report. According to the latest news, the latest rumours are that the smartphone will be quite similar to its last year’s model, Google Pixel 4a 5G in terms of its appearance. 9to5 Google reported that the Pixel 5a 5G will be powered by a Snapdragon 765G SoC.

9to5 Google claims that it has discovered references of a handset codenamed Barbet along with “sm7250” as the model number in the latest release of Android 12 Developer Preview 3. Note that previous reports have revealed that the upcoming Pixel 5a 5G will be codenamed Barbet. Similarly, the part number “sm7250” belongs to Snapdragon 765G.

Previously, Google has used Snapdragon 765G chip to power its Google Pixel 5 and Google Pixel 4a 5G smartphones. The new report does not provide any other information on the specifications of the upcoming Pixel 5a 5G device.

Some of the reports are also claiming that Pixel 5a 5G might come with a limited release. It might eventually only release in the U.S. and in Japan. Whether there will be a 4G version of the device or not is still unconfirmed and uncovered by existing reports.

Google Pixel 5a might also arrive in India because it was spotted in the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Note that since 5G networks have not yet started in India, the company might bake a 4G version of the device for release in India.

Well known tipster, Steve Hemmerstoffer has shared renders of Pixel 5a 5G. As per the leaked renders, the device will come with a 6.2 inches FHD+ OLED screen with a punch-hole design. It will sport a square-shaped camera module with a dual-camera system and an LED flash. The handset is expected to come with a traditional fingerprint sensor in the back.
